Goodyear has put out a message that reads as follows:
Good-Fayetteville has begun the process of shutting down operations. The plant will shut down operations for all crews at 7 a.m., Wednesday, March 25. There are limited areas scheduled to work on C crew Tuesday night, March 24, including apexers, shears, ply, liner, full-stage tire room, Curing and Final Finish. Maintenance associates should contact their supervisor for their operating schedule.
So, apparently some people will be working and some won’t.
Full Stage (DEPT 705) WILL be working.
First and second stage traditional tires (DEPT 700 and 703) WON’T be working, Mixing (DEPT 320) Won’t Be working.
I sincerely apologize for the confusion here. We put out what we think to be true as fast as we can. The Company has not been the best at providing timely , accurate information.
We are now being told that MAINTENANCE associates on B CREW and 8 HOURS ARE SCHEDULED TO WORK on Wed. 3-25-20 at 7:00am. Only MAINTENANCE
It has just been confirmed to us that B and D Crews will NOT be working tomorrow, Wed, 3-25-20.
More information will be posted when it becomes available.
Hello Brothers and Sisters, 3-22-20 3:00pm
Our Union has always been built upon the principles of Solidarity and the idea that when things get tough, we come together as a family. Now, we find ourselves in unfamiliar territory. Because of the coronavirus we are being advised to keep our distance from our coworkers, friends, and even family.
The Union Leadership has been in discussions with the Company about shutting the plant down as quickly as possible and have been able to secure SUB pay for all bargaining unit members.
As of this writing, the projected shutdown time has moved past Tuesday evening into Wednesday. This situation is extremely fluid, and Members are encouraged to be sure that your contact phone number and address are correct. If you do NOT get the alerts from the Company, there is a good chance that your information is not up to date.
I also want to address the rumors in the plant. We have not been informed of any bargaining unit member that has been confirmed to have coronavirus (covid-19). Even as such, we have been in contact with Plant and Corporate leadership and continue to voice the concerns of Members. I want our members safe and continue to push for a quick halt to production.
Any new information will be posted as it becomes available.
My prayers go out to our Members and their Families and may God bless Local 959
President, USW Local 959
Here’s Information from Goodyear on shutdown:
Everyone is anxious about the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak and what it means for ourselves and our families as well as our communities and livelihood. If and when information is available about the operation of the plant, it will be posted.
We wanted to let everyone know that a rumor about someone’s spouse being confirmed infected with the virus is false. This has been confirmed with plant management and was communicated to the Union leadership.
As the situation with Goodyear and everything else is fluid, and subject to change at anytime, we encourage you to watch for updates and keep in mind that rumors are usually just that, rumors.
Update: Governor orders schools closed and bans mass gatherings….
But does not include factories.
Update: Wed, March 18, 2020 9:45 AM …. More rumors about people in plant. As of this time there are no known cases involving the plant.
The plant is operating with “Business as Usual”. Any changes will be posted just as fast as we are told of them.
Update: Wed, March 18, 2020 11:45 AM…… The Company is now formulating a plan to have some sort of staggered shutdown. We do not have any information other than that at this time. Will post as soon as we are told anything else.
